Downsizing your home and moving is a stressful experience for anyone, but Older Adults are often greatly affected.

After spending years in their family home, it’s difficult and can be overwhelming to prepare for such a significant life transition. We provide a caring, thoughtful approach to your downsize and transition to your new home.

We provide compassionate support for decision-making, stress relief, and peace of mind.

We also understand that each situation is unique. Our specialized custom care plans are designed around your needs, or the needs of your loved one. We ensure you, and/or your loved one, are cared for each step of the way with a gentle, thoughtful approach.

Our services provide a caring, practical, and cost-efficient method to downsize and declutter your home.

Our professionally trained consultants will conduct an initial in-home consultation at no charge , allowing us to meet, understand your needs and outline a plan customized to you. Our experienced team will guide you through the process:

Consult and Plan your move

  • Determine your needs
  • Develop an overall plan and strategy that covers all aspects of the move

Downsize

  • Work with you to sort and downsize
  • Identify items no longer needed and arrange sales, donation and disposal of unwanted items

Move

  • Manage the process from scheduling movers, packing to unpacking – following all procedures and protocols at both ends to ensure the move is safe, time and cost-efficient.

Settle In

  • Organize and setup to turn-key condition
  • Remove all boxes and packing material 
  • Organize items that belong together for ease

Several recent life changes presented the opportunity to re-evaluate what, and who are the most important to me. The result was launching my small business- Beyond the Move.

In 2020, my husband and I made the decision to downsize our family home of 20 years. I can appreciate first-hand the effort and stress associated with this task, especially when under extremely tight timelines (& COVID protocols). Determining what our new home had space for, dispersing (donating, recycling, selling, storage) items we no longer had room or need for, and preparing the house for sale was a stressful period. A few years prior,  a loved ones home needed to be sold, and it contained decades of belongings and treasures, to be sorted and dispersed or disposed of. This was a very time-consuming, stressful process whereby the support of a professional certainly would have made a world of difference to us.

Through my personal experiences, I realized many older adults, their families, and loved ones, are faced with the daunting task of downsizing and relocating and often with very limited support. My love for organization and process, as well as my attention to detail, led me to the Senior Move Management industry. In addition to having completed NASMM Senior Move Management training, I am a Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA) ®. I have a deep understanding of the age-related changes and issues impacting older adults, allowing me to better understand and support the needs of my clients.

I spent over 30 years in a corporate career where I built strong client relationships based on understanding and trust. I have lived in Durham Region my entire life and now reside in Port Perry where I grew up.

  • Unpack, organize, and set up the new residence to turn-key condition to make it yours – clean, comfortable, and inviting
  • Arrange furniture, hang pictures
  • Electronics, TV installation & setup (upon request)
  • Grocery shop
  • Assemble furniture
  • Check-in / Follow-up after the move is complete (make minor adjustments)
